Applique
Applique is a form of embroidery. Basically stating, applique is a piece of material that is sewn on top of another piece of material. With machine embroidery, the fabric piece is typically is used to fill in portions of designs instead of using thread. There are numerous types of applique. One of the most common types is actually a term named tackle twill which actually refers to a type of material that is frequently used on the back of athlete’s uniforms in which letters are zigzagged or satin edged along with a large number. Another form of applique uses numerous types of materials (usually these can be washed and are fairly stable or can be stabilized) to fill in portions of embroidery designs that are designed for applique.
